VMware Unveils New edge Computing Solutions To Bolster Enterprise oT Efforts

VMware continued its Internet of Things (IoT) project at Mobile World Congress on Wednesday, presenting a series of new state-of-the-art IT solutions that address use cases in asset management and tracking.

The solutions are developed through industry partnerships with companies such as Axis Communications, Wipro Limited and more, according to a press release. By focusing on advanced computing, VMware solutions could help business users leverage data created by IoT implementations in a secure and efficient way.

On the VMware side, products such as the VMware vSAN hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) software, VMware vSphere, and the VMware Pulse IoT Center will play a role in the new solutions, the statement said. At this stage, the solutions will address specific needs in the manufacturing and manufacturing sectors, as well as in some physical stores.

The solution will be managed through the VMware Pulse IoT Center.

With Wipro Limited, VMware will also launch an asset tracking tool for manufacturers. Wipro's Looking Glass asset management platform will be integrated with VMware's IoT Edge solutions for asset and data tracking and predictive failure analysis.

"The benefits of improving the efficiency and productivity of machines and other assets throughout the plant have the potential to generate significant benefits for manufacturers," the statement said.

VMware also spent about $ 6 million on advanced computer research with the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the CMM.
